We of course celebrated a big birthday last Thursday for our dear niece Kendall Avery! I searched for the perfect gift and found this precious dress with an AMAZING bow! The dress, very authentic to the mexican culture and the bow... well it's a bit more tourist then traditional! Today I had the chance to see her in it via Skype and doesn't she look precious! If you can't tell the bow does have 2 Corona bottles glued to it and she totally loves it! haha
Going back to last week, there were numerous celebrations bringing in the 200th year of independence leading up to Thursday. Infront of Puerto Paraiso (our local mall) the Los Cabos Student Orchestra, compiled of students around the area, performed traditional Mexican songs to a large crowd! They did a great job and it brought me back to elementary school, when I had horrendous bangs, crooked teeth, and played the violin! ahhhhhhh memories! The Diver
Flailing Mermaid?!?
After swimming all day (accompanied by some unwanted jelly fish which of course stung a few times,) eating a nice lunch, and having a few cold beers at the beach, we went to one of my co-workers house to eat dinner! Diana Owen, co-hosts the Thursday News in English Magazine with me, and her husband made us DELICIOUS homemade tostadas with a phenomenal angel food cake!!!!!! We really felt at home and spent quite a while talking with them about their paths that brought them to Cabo!
Another home away from home here in Cabo is COSTCO!!!!!!! They are reliable, consistant and YES they are prepared for Christmas! hahaha Haley was super worried that we would have to decorate one of our cacti in the yard this year but Hay... we're in luck! Granted a little early, prepared none the less!
For all of you who know my Ty well, you know the boy can and will eat anything. From various sections of an animals anus to where ever the mind takes you he will try it! Spicy is also not going to turn him away from an experience to eat, no matter the Scoville scale! For 6 years now I have know him to never be affected by the heat of a pepper. Well this evening, Ty (and his co-workers) found his match. We stopped by a taco stand a block from the house, though it has no seating, it always attracts people for the smells coming off the grill from the ENORMOUS pastor rotisserie! Well a side dish with the three tacos the boys purchased was a jalepeno pepper. Ty took a bit into it, everything was fine.... about 5 seconds later.... tears! Seems silly to mention but it was a first for me to see this happen! But this didn't stop him, he mustered up the courage to continue eating as much of that damn pepper as he could.... after almost getting to the point of revisiting the portions of the pepper he ate, he payed for the tasty treat and off to the bars down town we went. Well at this point it was rather late in the evening, and that damn pepper was really effecting Ty's enjoyment of beer, so we knew we needed to call it a night!
Sheer pain.... :/
Here in Cabo, rain is almost a myth... well that's until your smack dab in the middle of hurricane season! I reported Monday that we had an Invest 96, or a small storm system with capabilities of becoming a tropical storm. After looking at the water temperatures, it didn't look too likely so I didn't pay much attention to it... Oh how I was wrong.... Say hello to Tropical Storm Georgette and her evil wrath upon Cabo San Lucas! Though the rain was much needed... Did B really need to go all Bon Qui Qui and flood the streets?! Reference www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZkdcYlOn5m Maybe that doesn't make sence but who doesn't want to watch Bon Qui Qui. Back to Georgette.... The eye of the storm produced 3/4 to an inch and a half of rain every hour here in our area... well she pretty much hung out all evening long until mid afternoon so the picture speaks for how the area was impacted. Schools were closed, many of the dirt roads were undriveable, and some businesses were closed (not Capella!) Georgette did give Capella's grounds crew a run for their money. Surrounded with vegetation, beautiful sand patches, and of course the ocean, dirt was EVERYWHERE!!!!
Today, as the rain seeped into the ground around town, the air was full of dense dust and sand clouds from the movement generated by vehicles going about their day! Luckily here at the house we didn't have any damage and no leaks inside the house! Our outdoor living area wasn't so great. We found a weak spot in our palapa (thatched roof) which allowed water to dominate all paths it crossed! Fortunately after a day of drying out seat cushions, lots of woman power and a squeegee... all was back to normal with a lovely partially cloudy day and highs in the lower 80s!
Our first Tropical Storm.... Meet Georgette :/
So this week has obviously had it's ups and downs, as have Ty and I in our professional lives. A brilliant woman gave me advice long before I came here to Cabo. She explained how in our 20s we are searching for our true identity. We struggle to reach that balance between our college fun party years and profound in the eyes of not only our superiors but our equals. We have one another to stay balanced in our walk of life together and having that will push us forward to bigger and better things. I heard this super influential song for those people put in our lives that are bringing us down. Listen to it and look up the lyrics as well. Beautifully sung and instantly relateable. www.youclubvideo.com/video/129441/natasha-bedingfield-strip-me
